Annual Be Great Golf Classic

Each fall Boys & Girls Club of Walker County hosts a Be Great Golf Classic to raise operating funds for our programs.  Learn more about how YOU can participate in this year’s event.

Something to Give Thanks For . . .

Thanksgiving Baskets is a program of the Boys & Girls Club to assist deserving families in Walker County to celebrate Thanksgiving.  Through the sponsorship of the Salvation Army and Walmart, we will be able to put a turkey with the all the fixings on the tables of 17 families this Thanksgiving Day.

HELP!  Santa Has a BIG Job . . .

Every year the Boys & Girls Club takes the lead in making sure that our at-risk children have a good Christmas experience.  Through the Santa’s Helpers  program, the Boys & Girls Club brings Christmas joy to almost 300 children in Walker County.  Many area businesses, organizations, and individuals donate toys, games, food, clothing, or Christmas decorations so that these children will have presents under their Christmas tree — and, in some cases, have a tree at all.  Knowing that they are valued increases our kids’ self-esteem and senses of well-being and belonging.  Both Entergy and Walmart have stepped up to be major Santa’s Helpers in 2011.

Two New Programs to Assist Our Kids . . .

Sight for Students Program.  Boys & Girls Club has partnered with the Sights for Students Program to provide eye exams and glasses to any child who doesn’t have a vision plan and is not on Medicaid.  Dr. Stephen Means, a Boys & Girls Club supporter, is one of the partnering providers.

BackPack Buddy Club.   Boys & Girls Club has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to make sure that all children have adequate food during the weekend.  There is a strong correlation between nutrition and school performance.  So, each Friday the Boys & Girls Club provides five pounds of food to 50 Club members to supplement what is available at home.
