As we all join together..
Boys & Girls Club fills a critical need in Walker County.
Boys & Girls Clubs build character through everyday leadership and guidance in behavior and attitude. Young people of all nationalities, races and creeds join together in wholesome recreation and leadership.
Trained professional staff along with our treasured volunteers provide positive adult mentors and role models. Most importantly, the adults of the Boys & Girls Club shows youngsters that someone cares and wants them to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
YOU can be involved at whatever level of participation you choose — once a year or every day. AND there are a variety of ways to become involved.
Working directly with Youth..
At the MLK Club we are blessed with volunteers most every weekday afternoon. They assist the children with their daily activities, providing an afternoon snack, giving homework assistance/tutorials, and organizing and monitoring indoor and outdoor recreational activities. Volunteers may also organize an activity for the children that they are uniquely qualified in, such as an art project or sewing or dancing or a field day or carnival. How you work with the children is only limited by your imagination, energy, and desire.
If you want to work with the children once for a couple of hours, just call us to schedule a time.
If you want to work with children for a more extended number of hours or over a longer time, you will need to complete our Volunteer Application and register online for a criminal background check. The background check is required by the State of Texas for all adults working with children to ensure the safety of our kids.
To work as a Volunteer..
Download and print the application and order your background check, or just come in to our admin office to pick up the application.
Supporting our community and Fund-raising Events..
The Boys & Girls Club could not possibly participate in available activities of Walker County to promote, entertain, and expand children without the involvement of great volunteers.
We participate each year in many community events, among them Day for Kids, Fair on the Square, Scare on the Square, and multiple parades. We utilize the assistance of volunteers for transportation, set up and take down of materials and equipment for the event and to monitor and facilitate children’s activities. Bring your heart and your hands out to assist. You’ll have a lot of fun!
We also organize a major fundraiser each September — the Be Great Golf Classic. There are many opportunities for you to jump in and make a huge difference as we bring out the community to support us.
Just call us at 936-291-6054
to volunteer your services. From the use of your pickup truck or your muscles to your organizational or artistic skills, you can get as involved as you want to be.
